How many years have you been in business in NYC?
28 years
How did you get your start and what was your initial inspiration?
I had very sensitive skin growing up and many skin problems, so I spent a lot of time with a dermatologist. At a very young age, I realized that this was my calling.
What do you feel differentiates you from others in your field?
I have a very individualized approach. I spend a lot of time understanding the needs of each individual patient and customize the treatment plan accordingly. It is never a one size fits all cookie cutter approach.
What do you feel gives you longevity in this big city with so many options?
I am very available to my patients. Everyone has my personal email. They can always reach me when they need me for big problems and small.
How do you positively impact your clientele?
I look at the entire person. Being a good dermatologist means being a good doctor. On the more serious side, I have made the diagnosis of an early brain tumor in my patient. On the beauty side, I give recommendations for makeup artists, haircutters and some patients even send me images of their clothes for opinions.
What is your favorite part of your job?
I have gotten to meet some of the most interesting people in the world. The best part is that I get to meet them on such an intimate level and really get to know them.
What is your favorite secret NYC spot?
I like to walk my dog by the Delacorte Music Clock located near the Children's Zoo at 8 AM so I can hear the music and watch the whimsical animals whizzing by.
How do you benefit mamas?
I think it starts before they are a mama when I give a woman a skin care regimen to protect their skin from melasma. But certainly for moms this year I developed a skin cleanser called Sea Radiance Gentle Cleanser which instantly hydrates skin. Since mamas are overworked and often running out the door with no time for themselves, this is a product you can use to wash your face and moisturize in one step.
What is the most memorable feedback a client has given you?
"Thank you for saving my life." This was when I found a melanoma on a patient that came for Botox and refused a mole check and I insisted.
Pay it forward and name your top colleague in the same field or related field:
Sam Rizk is an excellent plastic surgeon that I send patients to all the time.
What is the best advice anyone has ever given you? Or what is your mantra/words to live by?
Whatever you do, even it's if it's the smallest thing, do the best job you can. By nature I'm a perfectionist. In every aspect of my practice I try to find the best needles and all the best equipment and I strive to do the most perfect job for my patients, and make the experience in my office the best it can be.
As moms, the day can escape us what is your best time-saving trick?
If I'm really running late I eat a Kind bar for breakfast. It's low in sugar only 4g of sugar and with all those nuts it's extremely filling. My favorite flavor is Madagascar Vanilla Almond.
