How many years have you been in business in NYC?
5 years
How did you get your start and what was your initial inspiration?
I was personally frustrated with the options out there for having my nails done and thought the experience could be elevated in so many ways.
What do you feel differentiates you from others in your field?
Tenoverten is committed to creating a more natural experience for people to take care of their nails. We elevate the concept of the neighborhood nail salon by using safer products from start to finish, increasing ventilation for cleaner air and maintaining the highest standards for both hygiene and customer service so that our clients only have to think about which color polish they'd like to try during their visit. We only do natural nails as we believe in long-term nail health but have fun doing it and can still pull off some killer nail art using our namesake polish line that is entirely 8-free. We also create a space that feels like you are in someone's home, with custom designed pedicure chairs and walnut based manicure tables. Each of our spaces is uniquely designed depending on it's location and the existing elements in the space. We have four NYC salons, one in Austin, TX and coming to LA in the Fall of 2016.
What do you feel gives you longevity in this big city with so many options?
We are very focused on our relationship with each of our customers and a lot of them have become friends. We love seeing familiar faces walk through our doors and I think people feel that so they keep coming back.
How do you positively impact your clientele?
We provide a nail salon with the highest standards of hygiene use products that are safer by containing less chemicals throughout each service. We do the thinking for you so that you can come in and just relax knowing you are in the safest environment possible while getting your nail services. This makes mamas very happy too when they bring in their little ones.
What is your favorite part of your job?
Interacting with our amazing employees that are truly the soul within our salons.
What is your favorite secret NYC spot?
NAVY restaurant on Sullivan Street is such a gem with the most delicious menu. I’m also loving the new Whitney museum.
How do you benefit mamas?
We give moms a mini escape during their day and also a space that they can enjoy with their little ones. We love when kids come into the salon and have iPads armed with games and apps should they get bored waiting for that polish to dry.
What is the most memorable feedback a client has given you?
Our first week of being open at our Fulton Street location someone emailed to tell me that we should finish our wood floors. It was just memorable and laughable because we were going for a raw and unfinished look. Lesson learned, our design sense doesn’t appeal to everyone.

As moms, the day can escape us, what is your best time-saving trick?
I am obsessed with Sunday night diaper.com orders. That makes me feel prepared for the week to come and next day delivery is key. I share a calendar with my husband called the Mommy Daddy calendar that saves a lot of time just talking about the kids schedules. It is in one central place at all times.
