How many years have you been in business in NYC?
8 years
How did you get your start and what was your initial inspiration?
In my twenties, I desperately wanted to find ways to feel better. I used to would wake up feeling bloated, lethargic, and so tired during the day that I needed to nap on my desk. I began to look at my life, and the choices I was making, and how they played a part in how I felt - not just the food I ate, but how I ate it, how I talked to myself, the amount of water I was drinking and how much I was sleeping. Now, instead of eating out, I recreate my favorite dishes in my kitchen. I call it “healthifying" - taking my favorite indulgent foods and swapping the ingredients with healthier options, so I never feel deprived or guilty. I try to infuse healthy habits into all areas of my life and I feel SO much better!
What do you feel differentiates you from others in your field?
My realistic, relatable approach to healthy eating and healthy living. I create healthy twists of your favorite indulgent foods, so you can feel good and eat the foods you love, without ever feeling deprived. I focus on what you can eat, not on what you can’t eat. I’m super passionate about what I do, and I definitely walk my walk and talk my talk.
What do you feel gives you longevity in this big city with so many options?
I attract people who align with my energy and holistic approach. I also believe that there is plenty to go around, so I never feel a sense of competition.
How do you positively impact your clientele?
I find creative ways to inspire my clients to love themselves, treat themselves well, and feel confident cooking on their own. During my cooking classes, I teach simple techniques to make gourmet-tasting, quick, and nutritious meals. I create special customized menus and shopping lists with my favorite healthy brand recommendations so they always know what to stock their kitchens with. While cooking, we chat and listen to music - its a lot of fun! During my nutrition sessions, we don’t just talk about what to eat for breakfast, lunch and dinner. We discuss portion control and tips to satisfy your cravings so you never feel guilty. We work through letting go of unwanted habits and retraining your mind to incorporate sustainable healthy habits. We talk about ways to cultivate a better relationship with your body so you love how you feel and never feel the burden of counting calories. We discuss morning rituals to start off the day on a positive note and bedtime rituals for peaceful sleep. I love incorporating aromatherapy, music, meditation, breathing exercises and chewing exercises into our sessions too. I believe that it’s not just what you eat - it’s how you treat yourself, fully.
What is your favorite part of your job?
Creating simple, gorgeous and colorful meals with fun women and families who want to learn. And then, of course, eating it!
What is your favorite secret NYC spot?
Barn Joo
How do you benefit mamas?
I offer private cooking classes for adults and children, as well as pantry clean outs, nutrition and healthy lifestyle sessions. I help moms find quick and healthy alternatives, so they can save time in their kitchens and feel confident that they’re feeding their kids the healthiest food possible.
What is the most memorable feedback a client has given you?
The best feedback is when I see clients recreating my recipes. One woman recently made my Apple French Toast and she and her kids became so obsessed with it, they ate it for breakfast every morning that week!
Pay it forward and name your top colleagues in the same field or related field:
Aimee Raupp - acupuncturist and healthy lifestyle. Gabrielle Bernstein - motivation and positive life inspiration. Christa Orecchio - healthy recipes and tips.
What is the best advice anyone's ever given you? Or what is your "mantra" / words to live by?
Focus on what you want (not on what you don’t want). I’ve recently been obsessed with listening to Esther Hicks while I get ready in the morning and it’s changed my whole day.
As moms, the day can escape us, what is your best time-saving trick?
The broil function on your oven. You just need to know how to use it, otherwise your food with burn to a crisp! I broil to make quick dinners, like Thin Crust Pizza.
